Ivan Gonta is written with Ґ in Ukrainian.

From what I saw in Ukrainian books, he was written like ГОНТА:

ГОНТА is mentioned in "Ilyustrovana Istoriya Ukrayiny" by Hrushevsky
ГОНТА is mentioned in "Istoriya Ukrayiny" by Kryp'yakevych.
Гонта is mentioned in the Ukrainian translation of Subtelny's History of Ukraine.
Гонта is mentioned in O. Bagan's "Natsionalizm i nationalistychnyi rukh..."
Shevchenko wrote Гонта in Haydamaky
Last but not least, he is called Гонта in uk-wiki.

In proposed by me dictionary to quite no surnames Гонта, only Ґонта. Post-1993 only some publishing (Dovidnyk). Since majority publication before 1993 so Гонта more often meets, but also Ґонта too not seldom more than 2 thousand in Yandex (Google does not distinguish Г from Ґ). Amongst them there is Shevchenko and Subtelny and Nataliya Polonska-Vasilenko and more [2] [3] [4] [5]. А за нагадування про українську вікі дякую, зараз виправлю. Бо ми у Вікіпедії намагаємось користуватись офіційним українським правописом. Тобто, я не думаю, що Гонта буде дуже великою помилкою, у крайньому випадку можна дати обидва варіанти. Але в офіційному сучасному правописі є тільки Ґонта. --Yakudza 23:32, 18 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
